Local Spine Surgeon Aims to Establish Scoliosis Support Group
Dr. Jonathan F. Camp sets out to start first group in Valley
(LAS VEGAS)— Dr. Jonathan F. Camp, a pediatric spine surgeon at Children’s Bone and Spine Surgery, today announced he intends to establish the first-of-it’s-kind scoliosis support group in Southern Nevada.
Camp, who was the first pediatric orthopedic surgeon to practice in Las Vegas, now wants to be the first to establish a support group for parents, guardians and children who are affected by scoliosis, a spinal deformity that, if left untreated, can lead to serious health conditions.
“In my years working with parents and their children, it has become apparent that a support group would be beneficial,” he said. "I think it is important for parents and patients to have another place to turn for support and answers to questions regarding scoliosis. Parents go through emotional times when dealing with their children’s treatment for this condition, and their experiences can provide emotional support and peace of mind for other parents and children facing a similar experience.”
Currently in the planning phases, Camp is enlisting past patients, their parents, and those who have gone through scoliosis treatments in the past to join the support group. He plans on holding the first meeting in the early summer. As people sign up for the group, meeting time, frequencies and location will be decided.
“It is my hope that families dealing with scoliosis can come to these support groups to learn about the condition, treatment and take comfort in knowing others have gone through it and are going through it,” he said.
For more information regarding the group, or to express an interest in participation, please contact Camp at Children’s Bone and Spine Surgery, (702) 434-6920.
